Published diploma which implements the provisions on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market laid down on Regulation (EU) 910/2014

Decree-Law no. 12/2021 was published on 9 February, implementing in Portuguese law the provisions set out in Regulation (EU) 910/2014 on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market.

This Regulation was introduced with the objective of promoting greater use of these services by citizens, economic operators, and public administration.

Decree-Law no. 12/2021 aims to provide the Portuguese authorities with the powers to carry out the supervisory activities provided for in the Regulation, to define the sanctioning framework applicable in case of infringement of the Regulation’s rules and to consolidate the existing legislation both on the validity, effectiveness, and evidential value of electronic documents and on the “Sistema de Certificação Eletrónica do Estado – Infraestrutura de Chaves Públicas”.
