Amendment to the Nationality Law: 5 years assessed from the request for temporary residence authorization

Organic Law No. 1/2024, of March 5, amends the Nationality Law, introducing a significant change in the calculation of the 5-year period, a key requirement for obtaining Portuguese nationality through naturalization. Specifically, with this amendment, the 5 years of residence in Portugal will be calculated from the moment the temporary residence authorization is requested.
